I first became interested in traditional healing practices travelling in Asia in my late teens. I studied Thai massage and began learning more about the philosophy and principles of Eastern medicine. Interested in working with people, I took a BA in Psychology at Manchester University. I found that for me, despite some positive aspects, a purely Western model lacked the wholeness and integrity I was seeking to base my working life upon. I followed my heart and interest in Qi Gong, and studied a BSc in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, and a diploma in Qi Gong Tui Na at Westminster University. Whilst based on traditional practices and philosophy, the courses thoroughly emphasised Western pathology and physiology preparing practitioners to work in an integrated way with other health care providers.
I trained more in Qi Gong and Yoga in my spare time, immersing myself in learning about movement and energy as much as I could. After graduation I began working in Brighton in 2002. In 2007 I spent six months in India deepening my yoga practice and becoming qualified to teach.
In my acupuncture and massage practice I became more and more interested in womens health and birth and started attending births offering support as an acupuncturist. With my own pregnancy in 2007 I felt inspired to learn more about birth and attended a doula training led by Michel Odent. This was a profound opening for me. Following the beautiful birth in 2008 of my daughter I began the process of becoming recognised with the organisation Doula UK and have been registered since 2010.The work inspires me and I feel honoured to be a doula. I feel passionately about supporting women in general to feel more connected to their deep intuitive wisdom and support Red Tent gatherings in the Brighton area where women can gather to support one another and grow more deeply in touch with themselves.
I draw on the range of influences and experience that I have gathered to try to offer the most integrated approach that I can whichever modality I am practicing. I am committed to my personal education and development.
I feel grateful to be working with the blessing and spiritual support of Grandsheik Moulana Nazim of the Naqshbandi Sufi way who has offered me so much guidance since 2004 when I became connected to this Sufi order.
